Inside, however, the shops are modern and stock an interesting range of fine wines - Hennings have won prizes in the Independent Wine Merchant of the Year Awards and are on top of their game.

Started in Brighton and now operating from the Chichester area, Festival Wines is an ethical wine merchant - that doesn't mean that other Sussex wine merchants are unethical of course. It's just that Festival Wines put a bit more emphasis on how the wines they import are grown.

Festival Wines specialise in organic wines and biodynamic wines, but not to the exclusion of other great tasting wines that don't quite meet these criteria.

Hurstpierpoint's independent wine merchant

South Downs Cellars is bang in the middle of Hurtspierpoint High Street - it also has an online wine store.

The company sells around 500 wines which it sources mainly from small wine producers from all over the world. Like all good independent wine merchants, South Downs Cellars organises frequent wine tastings for afficionados. South Downs can also help with wine investment decisions and organising fine wines for special occasions like weddings and corporate events.

The Wine Merchant also runs a wine club, called the Route du Vin Wine Club with wine centred evenings, special offers and several other benefits. We reckon the fee for membership of the wine club is very reasonable.
