West Sussex Falconry

The Sussex Falconry Centre

Falconry displays and falconry courses
The Sussex Falconry Centre put on falconry displays at events across West Sussex and further afield too. If you are having a fete or other outside event you can book the Centre's birds of prey, which also include hawks and owls, for a demonstration of the birds' natural behaviour, albeit in a captive environment.

If this whets your appetite and you would like to learn more about falcons and falconry, the Sussex Falconry Centre also runs falconry training courses to help you learn the art of training and handling these awesome killing machines.

The Sussex Falconry Centre used to run a Visitor Centre, but this closed in 2008.

NBC Bird & Pest Solutions

Falcons as pigeon deterrents
NBC are a national company who use falcons to scare away pigeons, seagulls and other nuisance birds from buildings. They describe this service as "falconry response" and it's a traditional way of scaring pigeons and other pests - and rather impressive too.

The company serves customers in Sussex with branches in Brighton and Portsmouth.

Chichester Cathedral Peregrine Falcons

Falcons nesting high over the city of Chichester
If you're interested in seeing these magnificent birds doing their thing without too much interference from man, you can take a peek at the family of peregrine falcons which nest high up on Chichester Cathedral.

The RSPB has a webcam in the falcons' nest, so you can intrude a little on falcon family life, although when the baby birds have fledged the webcam is switched off.

Better still, if you are in Chichester towards the end of the day, look up and listen. You can often see the falcons returning to the Cathedral spire around dusk, taking turns to feed their chicks. You can also hear their distinctive screeches high above the rooftops of Chichester.
