South Stoke
South Stoke is one of West Sussex's more remote feeling villages. It lies in the Arun Valley north of Arundel, at the end of a quiet road which loops along the west bank of the Arun Valley, passing the small village of Offham and the Black Rabbit pub along the way.
This is great walking country, with the Monarch's Way passing to the north at Houghton Bridge and a great loop of walks running alongside and around the meandering River Arun as it wends its way from Amberley down towards the next major bridge crossing at Arundel.
St Leonard's Church is an attractive centerpiece to the tiny village.
It's an 11th century church with little in the way of ornamentation. Much of South Stoke church's character was changed by alterations in the 19th century.
