Church Norton's Norman Castle
The Normans built a castle at Church Norton soon after the battle of Hastings in 1066.
Sussex was a key strategic territory for the Normans. Not only was it their beachhead as William the Conqueror attempted to subdue the rest of England, but Sussex was also geographically key for successful communications between Normandy and England.
