Attempts to manage the changing coastline of Pagham Harbour
The Sussex coast is a dynamic place - the prevailing sea currents sweep up the English Channel from West to East.
This causes the phenomenon of Longshore Drift - the constant sweeping of sand and shingle along the Sussex coast following the direction from Selsey to Brighton.
Over the centuries man has tried to manage the environment of Pagham Harbour to allow its use both as a safe haven for boats, but also as farmland.
