Romans in Sussex

With Fishbourne Roman Place and the Roman Villa at Bignor, we're fortunate to have two of the finest recovered Roman buildings in the country.

The Romans in Sussex site provides a look at how the Romans lived here in Sussex.

The site's content is stratified depending on whether you are a child or adult and the timeline series of maps is particularly interesting.

Sussex Archaeological Society

A registered charity which encourages the study and enjoyment of archaeology and history in East and West Sussex.

On their site you'll find details of some of the important Sussex historical sites like Fishbourne Roman Palace, Marlipins Museum in Shoreham and much more besides.

Sussex Archaeology & Folklore page

Great site which gives a whole host of varied information about slightly random bits of Sussex history.

Did you know, for example, that in 1645 a militia group called "The Clubmen" used the Trundle north of Chichester as a military base.

You didn't? There loads more stuff like this on the Sussex Archaeology and Folklore site. Recommended
